Dear Friends,

Jasna and I have some rather unfortunate news.  On Saturday, 16 August, at 3pm our son Cameron Andrew Veseth passed away.  He was 4 days overdue.  We want everyone to know what happened and hope you can respect our wishes for privacy in the coming days.

On Saturday at 11am Jasna and I went to her doctor because she started having little contractions and felt something.  The doctor monitored the baby’s heart and everything was perfect.  After a short drive to get lunch Jasna felt very strange and could not eat.  We went home and she took a bath to relax but quickly became very ill.

After 10 minutes or so we went to the hospital where the doctors there told us the bad news.  At that time Jasna was only dilated 2 centimeters or so with painful contractions every 3 minutes lasting for 1 minute at a time.  The skillful team of doctors and midwifes administered an epidural within 15 minutes and informed us that we had a better chance of having children if she gave birth naturally.  The mental and physical strength it took to for her to do that was absolutely incredible.

The entire hospital staff  were enormously supportive and made a difficult time a whole lot easier.  We were totally exhausted from the shock and Jasna was completely drained from labor but they took great care of the three of us.  We were allowed to keep Cameron privately in our own room and the next morning we said our goodbyes.

Jasna recovered for the next 2 days and was given antibiotics for a mild infection.  Cameron was found to be in perfect help which was a huge relief to both of us…not only because we had no idea what happened but also good to know when we try again.  The doctors believe it was a completely random accident with no way of knowing beforehand.   It’s possible there was a problem with the placenta or a part of the umbilical cord that didn’t look right.  They are doing more tests to find out.

It’s important for you all to know that Jasna is understandably stressed.   I’m taking great care of her and she gets a little better every day.  We both have our ups and downs several times a day while we deal with preparations and the emotional stress.  We have plans to exercise more, eat healthier, take a few trips and spend more time together….we also plan on trying again once her body is ready also!

Jasna wants you to know that when she is ready to talk she will contact you directly.  She just needs a little time and space to sort things out for herself without having to tell the story over and over again.  Thank you very much for your understanding and we look forward to seeing you all again soon.

LOVE,

    Jasna and Andrew
